GOOD EARTH

I made a special note when reading part of the Gospel of Mark the other day; the same verse was read at church this weekend: “Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.” That seems so true. We want to be righteous and perhaps even holy. However, dealing with the various issues of life chokes it right out of us. It’s easy to do the right thing if we are never in a situation where the world beats, tempts, abuses, and chokes our good intentions. It really does take courage, strength, and discipline to exhibit moral character. The greater the stress we are under the harder it can be to do right. The ways of the world can weigh heavily upon us. Even so, that is what separates us. It is required of us to do the right thing regardless of what the world puts up against us. We need to be good earth for the Good seeds to be sown in.
